First Term Teacher Training

Shriram Foundation organised a Teacher Training Program for the teachers of Shriram Matriculation School, Thiruneermalai, Chennai. The programme commenced on May 25 and concluded on May 31, 2017, with 29 teachers participating. The purpose behind the training programme was to help teachers make their classes more interactive and activity based, so as to make them more interesting and memorable for the students. The subjects covered in the programme were English, Mathematics, Science, Environmental Science, Value Education, as well as a Theatre Workshop. The faculty for the programme comprised of Ms. Vijayalakshmi Raman, Mr. Nivash, Ms. Sumathi Sudhakar, Mr. M.V.Giridharan and Ms. V.S. Anuradha.

Ms. Vijayalakshmi Raman is a mathematics teacher who firmly believes that “Maths is to be enjoyed, not feared.” She introduced the teachers to new unconventional methods of teaching basic mathematical concepts involving games and activity.

Mr. Nivash is a part of Crea-Shakthi, one of the first theatre groups in the country to integrate drama into mainstream academic subjects. He introduced the teachers to teaching through the use of theatre related exercises, which make the absorption of information easier and more fun.

Ms. Anuradha, Academic Advisor to Shriram Foundation, was in charge of EVS and Science during the Teacher Training Programme. Ms. Sumathi, Director- Education, and Mr. M.V. Giridharan, the counsellor at Shriram Matriculation School conducted the English Workshop.

The programme helped the teachers to prepare for Term 1 with a new set of tools and ideas.
